beauty

the nudsession.

04:58

When it comes to applying makeup, my go to look is always either 1.) fresh looking eye with minimum amount of neutral/nude eyeshadow, thin winged liner, and red lips (or nude if I want to look "accordingly") or 2.) thick and smudged liner, and a bold pout (or nude lipstick to calm the look down and won't scare the hell out of my mom). Because just like the moon, I believe everyone including me has 2 very different sides which contradicted to one another. You can tell from the way I put on makeup. There will be days where I want to look all grungy and messy, and there will be days where I just want to look subtle, tidy, and look like I don't put any effort on applying makeup.

My spirit-animals in the makeup department are Young Madonna, Young Uma Thurman/Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, The Olsen Twins, Taylor Momsen, Lucy Hale/Aria from Pretty Little Liars, and Kylie Jenner. Yep. Some of them share couple of similarities be it in the nude palettes department or the bold lip department.

I've always been obsessed with nude eyeshadows palette eversince the first time I saw the Urban Decay Naked palette. Then on my very first visit to a store called Sasa in Vivo City Singapore I saw The Balm eyeshadows pallete called The Nude Tude and I fell in love. I love how with a nude eyeshadow palette you can create a lot of different looks. You can do the smoky and grungy look like Taylor Momsen or the subtle and simple look like Audrey Hepburn. You can also use your eyeshadows as a contour and highlight. Another perk of owning a nude eyeshadow palette!

Not just eyeshadows, I'm also pretty much obsessed with matte and nude lippies. Be it lipstick, lip cream, lip balm, lip stain, or lip anything, as long as it's matte and nude I'm 100% sold. Nude lips was a hit back in the 90s but thank to Kylie Jenner, the trend has returns.

The Kylie Jenner Make-Up has been a trend for quite a long time. The makeup basically involves a huge amount of matte products. Matte foundation with full coverage and powder to set it and make the makeup lasts longer (also another mattyfying product), matte contouring kit, matte eyeshadows, and the last but not least to make it even more Kylie Jenner-esque, a matte and bold pout! And oh, don't forget about the brows! Brows must be filled and on-fleek to achieve the look.

These are the products that I assume Kylie wears to get her signature look. I might be right. But, I also might be wrong.

All the products that I've mentioned above are mostly beyond my budget, to be honest. And since there's no Sephora and High-End makeup counters in my town, I can't get any of those products unless I get it online or go to the closest Sephora a.k.a. the one in Singapore. But, due to the unhealthy amount of product reviews and makeup tutorials I've watched online, I might have found some alternatives or dupe for all the products that I've mentioned above! So you can still achieve the Kylie Jenner look even though you're on a very tight budget!

For a lot more cheaper prices you can directly go to belanjamimo.com. They sell a lot of products from different brands and also very trusted! Or you can get some of those products from the nearest supermarket or drugstores.

I personally haven't tried ALL of these products but I've heard a lot of good reviews about them and also their prices are reasonable.

FACE: I have a very oily skin and also huge pores so, a good primer or pore eraser is something that I MUST apply before I apply anything else on my face. I have the Maybelline Pore Eraser and it's doing me just fine. It's the only primer that I've ever purchased and used so I can't really say much about it but it does help to make my makeup stay longer than when I don't apply any primer before my makeup base. Last week I went to a drugstore and tried the L'oreal Paris True Match foundation (I forgot in what shade) and guys, it's the BEST foundation that I've ever tried. EVER. This foundation is even better than my TBS Extra Virgin Minerals foundation that I used to prom and also a lot cheaper! So gonna purchase it next time! For the concealer, I heard the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer is a good concealer to conceal dem dark circles and also highlight. And for the L.A. Girl concealer, I've tried it before and it does a great job on covering blemishes and spots! And also I've seen tutorials where people use this concealer to contour and highlight. Such a keeper! And for the powder, a lot of beauty gurus have raved about this Rimmel stay matte powder and the reviews are good. So gonna put this on my cart. But, if you live in Indonesia, you can use Wardah's loose powder! It costs around IDR 35.000,00 and it's easy to find. My mom uses this and sometimes I use this too and it does a very great job for a department store product and with that price, this powder is definitely a keeper.

EYES: A palette of neutral eyeshadows is definitely a must in everyone's makeup pouch. There are a lot of palette out there that consists of beautiful neutral shades and sometimes they come in both matte and shimmery shade. I have one from Silky Girl which used to be my sister's but she doesn't use it anymore. Once I runs out my Silky Girl eyeshadows I'm gonna get myself the one from Maybelline. They're so pretty I can't help it! I love big and voluminous lashes and this Maybelline rocket mascara is definitely a pro mascara in this department! It's easy to get too! Another plus point! And gel-liner is a very good eyeliner for eyeliner dummies and Maybelline has a great gel liner. So, go get em wings for your eyes!

BROWS: There are a lot of perks when it comes to owning a nude/neutral eyeshadows palette. You don't just use it for your eyelids! That would be a waste! Use your eyeshadows for contouring, highlight, and also to fill dem brows! Yeap! That's why owning a great neutral palette consists of matte shadows is a great investment. And you can also use the Maybelline's great lash in clear as a brow gel too! It's also a great mascara so you can just purchase it and double it's job as a brow gel as well. That would save a lot of money!

LIPS: To have a beautiful pout make sure your lips aren't chapped and has been exfoliated well. You can just use sugar and honey for both exfoliating and moisturising then you can right away line your lips with a nude lip liner then fill 'em with a nude and matte lipstick.

I ain't no makeup pro. But I love experimenting with makeup and create different looks. And the looks that I showed above are my favs and I find easy to create. May your eyeliner wing always be even.

Love,

Nurra

Eid, unexpected purchases and meet ups!

03:44

Before it's too late I'd like to wish all of my Moslem friends a very happy Eid Mubarak! Hope everyone's having/had a wonderful time with their loved ones at this very special moment.

School starts back in 2 weeks and I will be on my second year of High School. This is both exciting and frustrating to be honest. Exciting because I'm gonna meet my friends but, frustrating because it's school and I FEEL SO OLD! I will turn 16 too in two months time. Can we just turn back time to when I was only 4 and the only thing that I cared about was only about watching cartoons on TV? :(

I spotted Ozil, Ramsey, and the boss. Wenger!
I spent my holiday in Singapore, as usual. I visited my fam and also met some friends there. I didn't really have an itinerary for this trip. Once I arrived in Singapore I just walked around and contacted my friend who was there as well and arranged a meet up. And I was also lucky enough to bumped into Arsenal F.C. players and their manager, Arsene Wenger as well! I've never expected that I would be able to see them live and this close. Meeting the whole squad (well except for Sanchez and Welbeck) was definitely the highlight of my school break! The squad was there for the Barclays Asia Trophy 2015. I couldn't attend the match because the Eid vibe was still on so I just stayed at my relative's house and watched the live report on twitter. But. I'm still happy though because they won the tournament and brought home the trophy! Congrats, gunners!

With The Gunners! Toral, Szczesny, Crowley, and Wilshere.

some freebies that the crew gave away to fans.
I also had my first visit to the Lush store and had my first Lush purchase. It kind of surprised me how the store doesn't look like the ones I usually see on pictures. The store is relatively small and I was actually looking for the Cupcake Mask but it was out of stock so I got myself a Self-Preserving Ocean Salt Scrub instead! (lesson learnt: don't go on to lush oxford street's instagram page too much!) I tried on a lot of testers at the store. Starting from the mask and the infamous lip scrub. And they're all sooooo good! I'm gonna start saving up soon so I can do a Lush haul by the end of this year!

While I was there I stayed in my sister's place and didn't bother to bring any toiletry because she got a lot of cool stuffs that I don't own in her bathroom so I didn't bring any toiletry at all (I didn't even bring my own toothbrush!). I tried St. Ives Apricot Scrub for the first time and it made my skin so smooth! Love it! I also used her neutrogena deep cleans facial cleanser and I liked it. Then, on my last 2 days of my stay before going back home I realised that I'm actually running out of my cleanser and also sunscreen so I decided to go to Watson's to get those and also get my mom's eyebrow pencil since she's running out of her eyebrow product (this is the most vital reason of my Watson's visit).

I actually planed on getting a Neutrogena cleanser and also Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel since I've heard a lot of good things about them plus, they suit my budget and it's kind of hard to find them here in Batam. BUT, I ended up getting a Neutrogena sunscreen and Avene cleanser (plus exfoliating mask!!!). And they're kind of beyond my bugdet... But yeah I ended up getting them (might do a rant about it soon).

#TravelThrowback - Medan 2015

02:48

I woke up half an hour before my alarm rang. Excitement was all over my body and distracted me to having enough sleep. I set my alarm to wake me up at 4 a.m.. But oh well, it's better to be early than late and that gave me more time to get ready. I left my bed and started to get ready even though the cold ambience of the dawn was perfect to build a blanket cocoon. I had a quick shower and changed and put on something nice and made myself a quick breakfast. At 4.30 I was ready and my dad drove me to the airport.

I arrived at the airport at 5 and most of my friend were there. I was the only girl, though. The sky was so pretty and I couldn't help not to take a picture of it. I took lots of pictures but only one that looked decent. We took the 7 a.m. flight and checked-in at 6. It was pretty hectic for such an early hour.

The flight was one-and-a-half hours long. It was a school trip thing so the flight was noisy and my plan to continue my sleep during the flight remains a plan. Once the flight-attendant announced that we have landed, I couldn't contain my excitement anymore and was very amazed by the airport. Kualanamu International Airport is very pretty. Couldn't notice a single ethnical or traditional vibe or ambiance. The interior is very modern and pretty much reminds me of Changi Airport Singapore.

Once we arrived, we immediately headed to the city by bus. Highway, tall buildings, fancy cars, crowded road, trains railway. Heck yeah, I'm in a big city. I didn't sleep during the bus ride at all nor took any picture because, I was busy witnessing and amazed by the beauty of the big city.

We stayed at a guess house called Roemah 28 which is located in Jalan Sei Selayang No. 28. I shared a room with my friend, Vellia. The room's pretty small but it's okay for 2 people. The food and service there were good and the owner was very nice as well.

On the first night we had dinner at this place called, Ayam Penyet Jakarta. Yeah, ironic I know. Why bother taking a one and a half hours flight just to eat a freaking ayam penyet which is from Jakarta?? But, thank God. It was good and free so I don't mind.

I didn't go to tourist destinations places because as I've mentioned above it's a school thing so. we spent most of our times at a school in Medan. But we did visit a mall, though. We visited this mall called Centre Point and woah it's so huge!

I'm glad the food in Medan was good and I did buy Bolu Meranti and Bika Ambon for my family. What's the point of going to Medan if you didn't purchase bolu meranti and bika ambon?!

don't worry!
it's an ice-cream!

Dinner on my 2nd night.
A pretty dress that I spotted while
I was walking around at Centre Point

On the last day, I woke up very early to pack everything then, we headed to the train station. We took a train to the airport! Yes! If you've read my post about my holiday in Malaysia (here) you know that I LOOOOVEEEEE train rides so much! There's something about train ride that makes me happy, calm, and basically in my very best state of mind. The ride was around an hour long from the city to the airport and the train looks pretty similar to Malaysia's Commuter-Line in my opinion.

If I had the chance to go back to Medan, I would take it and visit more places and enjoy more food. I can't wait to be back. Till' we meet again, Medan.

Love,

Nurra
